The Brisbane Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is proud to sponsor the Brisbane 2009 |

FREE thinkers and everyone inspired by them are invited to the inaugural Brisbane celebration of All Heretics' Day presented by the Brisbane Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Ahimsa House in West End on Saturday 28th March from 1-4pm. A panel of local identities will discuss their personal experiences of times when those around them have said “You don't think right!” and perhaps even labelled them as a heretic. The discussion is particularly timely as Catholic priest Fr Peter Kennedy from the local St Mary's Catholic Community faces the very real possibility of being declared a heretic by the Catholic Church. Audience input will be welcomed as the panel tackles questions such as: What sustains you during major life challenges? What hope do you see for the future? What new directions do we need to take now for our planet, our country, our families, ourselves and our own spiritual well-being? In the next century, what will the differences in our personal spirituality be and what will they look like? How will we all come together in an environment of acceptance and respect where we can all move beyond the fundamentalist perspectives of the old world? All Heretics' Day is celebrated in the Unitarian Universalist tradition on a day close to 1st April, being April Fool's Day. Its purpose is to celebrate the lives of people whose heresy (an idea that conflicts with conventional beliefs and practices) has led to increased freedom of choice in expression of beliefs and lifestyle. This includes famous Unitarians such as essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Rev. Stephen Fritchman and scientist and Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling. Others, like Martin Luther King Jr, while not Unitarian, are honoured because they lived their lives in ways that opened the world to more freedom and love. For Unitarian Universalists in the Southern hemisphere, All Heretics' Day is an opportunity to celebrate the lives of free thinkers and also to consider contemporary philosophies and ideas that seem ahead of their time. Come and honour the heretics of our time and our own heretical thinking. This FREE public panel discussion will be held in the Emma Goldmann Room at Ahimsa House, 26 Horan Street, West End, Brisbane on Saturday afternoon, 28th March from 1pm – 4pm. Light refreshments available. Please,
